FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We’ve gathered the answers to some popular questions below. If you can’t find your question below feel free to contact us, and we’ll be happy to help.

Do You Accept Walk-Ins?

No, we’re appointment-only. Being a solo practice means Dr. Bell can give each patient a full, unhurried session rather than working patients in around drop-ins. Book online and we’ll confirm a time that works for you.

How Long Is My First Appointment?

The first visit typically takes 60-90 minutes and includes a full evaluation plus same-day treatment, so you leave with a clear plan.

What Does a Chiropractic Adjustment Do?

The infamous cracking sound produced by chiropractic adjustments or “joint manipulation” is generally understood to be a sudden decrease in intra-articular pressure when the joint is distracted by the adjustive thrust, releasing mainly carbon dioxide gas from the synovial joint fluid. Joint manipulation has been shown to have an effect on motor unit behavior as well as joint range of motion, producing muscle reflex responses that contribute to improved muscle movement and control. Essentially it is one of many therapeutic interventions used to combat chronic pain in the short term. Check out my blog post What Happens When You Get Your Back “Cracked”? for more info on the science and theory behind adjusting.

Where Do I Park / Find Your Office?

Our office is located in downtown Boston on Newbury Street, with the entrance right next to the Longchamp storefront. Detailed directions are sent to you after booking. See our Location page for parking and public transit information.

Do You Take My Insurance?

Please see our Insurance page for more information.

Can I Get Out of Network Reimbursement?

Many health insurance policies will allow full or partial patient reimbursement for services rendered with an Out of Network provider. The amount depends on your individual policy and deductible. See our Insurance page for more information.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

A minimum of 24 hours notice must be provided to cancel an appointment. Appointments
cancelled without sufficient notice will be charged in full for the service booked. This policy
applies to appointments made same day as well.
Our late cancellation policy is designed to keep things fair for all patients, and only makes allowances for family or medical emergencies. Because this is a solo practice, only one patient can be seen at a time. When an appointment is missed or cancelled late, it means another patient cannot be scheduled and directly impacts the sustainably of the office. We thank you for your understanding a cooperation.

Do I Need a Referral or Imaging (X-ray/MRI) Before My First Visit?

No referral or prior imaging is required. Your first visit includes a full health history, evaluation, and treatment the same day.

What Services are Available?

Our goal is to get you moving on the first visit by taking a diversified approach that involves more evidence based rehab and less traditional chiropractic adjusting. However, to address complaints of acute and chronic pain in the short term (e.g. stress related neck tension) we offer many techniques. Please see our Services page for more details.

What Conditions Do You Treat?

Dr. Bell treats a wide range of musculoskeletal issues, including neck and back pain, TMJ disorders, migraines, disc herniations, frozen shoulder, and carpal tunnel. She also works with athletes on performance and injury prevention, including runners training for the Boston Marathon.

Do I Have to Get “Cracked”?

No, absolutely not. We have many alternatives to traditional high velocity chiropractic adjustments including Traction, Activator, Flexion Distraction, among other therapeutic interventions. Please see our Services page for more information.
